FundraisingHelp the railway to thrive
Infrastructure Appeal 2020
As part of our planning to re-open the railway post Covid we have identified the need for some major infrastructure work to keep the railway operating safely. This includes completing a planned relay of 500 yards of track at Harmby, renewing the worn-out crossing decks at Wensley and Smiths crossings, renewing Swale bridge timbers and several spot track repairs where our patrollers have identified and documented issues.
While in lockdown we have been progressing these potential projects, by completing the designs, sourcing materials, arranging transport to site, and we are now able to push these essential projects forward. We have managed to obtain most of what we need at very favorable rates, including rail, concrete sleepers, ballast and crossing components, but there is still a shortfall in cash needed to complete this work before we re-open for the public and our second year running Polar Express.
We know that it only seemed a few months ago that we appealed to help us through Covid, and that money has been used to ensure the Leeming Station house project is one to be proud of, the rolling stock refurbishment continued and we were able to pay essential bills, but without safe and reliable infrastructure we simply can’t run any trains.
Your generosity will really make a difference – thank you and stay safe.
