Heritage Summer

Join us every Wednesday in August for a series of hands on heritage activities at Wensleydale Railway. With kids travelling for just £1, it’s the perfect way to spend your summer holiday midweek

5th August – Dinosaur Day:

Roar into a prehistoric day out at the Wensleydale Railway for our Dinosaur Day!
Join us across Leeming Bar, Bedale, Leyburn, and Scruton for dinosaur- themed family fun, including a trail, badge making, mask making, biscuit decorating, games, toys,mocktails, and lucky bags. Keep your eyes peeled as you travel along the line, with dinosaur activities and surprises to discover at our stations.

Children’s tickets are £6, which includes our Kids for a Quid travel offer. Adults go free with a valid train ticket. Click the link below to book or simply show up on the day!

5th August -All Aboard for Work:

Step back in time and discover what working life was like on the railway! All Aboard for Work will explore the people and jobs that kept the railway running, from domestic work in the Station House to trackside duties. Try out 1920s style laundry, sort some parcels, stamp tickets, handle old money, and discover more about working life at Leeming Bar and Scruton.

This is a free event! No need to pre-book, just travel with us and join in on the day. Donations to support the Railway will be gratefully received.

19th August -Engines Up Close:

Get hands-on and up close at the Wensleydale Railway, perfect for curious minds of all ages!

Join us at Leeming Bar and Scruton for an engineering themed day of railway activities. Build your own cardboard train or try your hand at constructing a semaphore signal. There will also be the chance to have your photo taken in a shunter cab. This activity is free to take part in with a valid train ticket, but donations to support the Railway will be gratefully received. No need to pre-book, just turn up and get involved!

26th August -Teddy Bears Picnic:

By popular demand, our Teddy Bears’ Picnic is back to close out the summer!

Bring your favourite teddy and start your day at Leeming Bar Station, where you can collect your trail booklet before hopping on the train to Scruton. Once there, there will be plenty to enjoy including face painting, Victorian toys and games, story time, badge making, harmonium music, and picnic fun.
We encourage visitors to bring a picnic, though snacks and refreshments will be available to purchase both at Scruton Station and from the Leeming Bar Station buffet car.
