Our Bedale P-Way volunteers began bridge repair work on Monday 19 January 2026.

Chris Morrill from the team reports:
“A murky day up the dale today for the P-Way volunteers who turned out (twelve!). This marked the start of works to install a waterproof membrane on to Stoop House bridge, which has suffered some water ingress into the masonry over the last few years. The plan for the day was to dismantle and remove the track panels across the deck ready for scraping off the bed.

Big thanks to the Operations Team, who ran a works train early up to site to drop off plant, materials and gear ready for the works. A bit of shuffling and lifting, and the Mk3 mess coach, Flatrol and SPA wagons were positioned either side of the bridge.

After a lunch in said mess coach, the gang cracked on with dismantling the track a panel at a time, stowing the components neatly on the line at the edge of the site. Four panels later, we called it a day and cleared gear back to Bedale, leaving the site ready for scraping tomorrow.”
