The Wensleydale Railway has been awarded a grant of £80,000 by The Railway Heritage Trust to relocate and restore the Grade II listed Hertford East signal box to Leyburn where it will control the recently installed passing loop. The box which is currently in the way of a planned platform extension will be dismantled later this month and worked on over winter before being installed at Leyburn during 2022.
The box will control the station site at Leyburn and be located in the same place as the original Leyburn station signal box.
This is a joint project between ourselves, The Railway Heritage Trust, Network Rail and Greater Anglia.
