Heritage Summer Activities

Join us in August for some fun children’s activities! On every Wednesday in August, Scruton Station will be hosting a number of fun activities for children. Events will run from 11am to 3pm and tickets can be bought on the day at our Leeming Bar ticket office. No pre-booking required.

7 August – Summer Trail – Free trail and activity booklet between Leeming Bar and Scruton. Explore our two heritage stations, meet our Living History Interpreters and have fun while learning about the past.

14 August – Scruton Scarecrow Spectacular – Live the life of a local farmer in the early 1900s! Collect your scarecrow supplies from the parcel’s office at Leeming Bar, and then head out into the countryside to Scruton, where our team will help you put it all together to keep your fields looking fantastic. £3 charge for the scarecrow pack, plus train ticket price (£1 for children).

21 August – Teddy Bears Picnic – Join us for our Teddy Bear’s Picnic and a choice of 4 trains between Leeming Bar and Leyburn. Why not bring your teddy bear for our Teddy Bears Picnic event? Your day starts at Leeming Bar Station, where you will collect a copy of our Teddy Bears Trail booklet from our station booking office before boarding the train for a short journey to our beautifully restored station at Scruton. Upon arrival at Scruton Station, you will be greeted by our friendly volunteers and there will be lots of fun activities to enjoy, including a teddy bear’s trail, face painting, Scruton harmonium music, story reading as well as toys and games available.

We recommend that you bring your own picnic food to eat but some refreshments will also be available to buy at Scruton. Entry to the event is only £6 for children (this includes the Teddy Bears Trail booklet and return train travel from Leeming Bar). Adults just need a return train ticket from Leeming Bar.

28 August – Make Do and Mend – enjoy some vintage arts and crafts at our Victorian Make Do & Mend event! With Victorian cards, peg people, wreaths and much more, there’s something for people of all ages, and plenty to keep the kids happy! So come along to Scruton, see the beautifully restored station, and get creative over a cuppa with our volunteers!

Tickets can also be bought on the day at our stations.
