Step Into History – Volunteer as a Living History Interpreter
Do you love storytelling, dressing up, or just want to do something a bit different in your spare time? Join our team of Living History Interpreters (LHIs) and help bring the past to life across Wensleydale Railway!
As an LHI, you’ll step back in time to portray life in the early 20 th century, giving our visitors a taste of what our station communities were really like.
Whether it’s welcoming school groups, chatting to passengers, or simply adding life to the platform – you'll be helping to create unforgettable memories for everyone who visits.
One of the most rewarding parts of the role is delivering interactive school sessions in character. Imagine being a 1920s Station Master showing children how to play traditional toys and games in the parlour or guiding them through a day in the life of one of our station porters. It’s immersive, engaging and lots of fun for both the students and our volunteers.
But that’s not all – LHIs are equally vital to making our tour groups, talks, and themed events come alive. Whether you prefer working with children, or engaging adult visitors with stories of the past, there’s a role for you at Wensleydale Railway!
Our LHI team is friendly and supportive, and you’ll always be paired with an experienced volunteer to guide you. Minimal training is required, and you’ll quickly get comfortable in your role. No acting experience is necessary either – just enthusiasm and a passion for history!
