George VI – Introduction
Albert Frederick Arthur George, or George VI, was born in 1895, but wouldn’t assume the throne until 1936 following the abdication of his brother, Edward VIII. Both the last monarch to be born during the reign of Queen Victoria and the last Emperor of India, George’s 16-year spell on the throne demonstrates the speed at which the world was changing in the first half of the twentieth century.
Of course, the most noteworthy element of George’s rule was the Second World War, during which George became a symbol of the defiance and determination of the British people. Follow the trail to learn more about George’s life, both during and outside of his difficult wartime reign.
