Leyburn Station, the current terminus of the line, is another one of our stations which is run and maintain by a group of committed and hardworking volunteers. The station is a highlight on your Wensleydale Railway journey with the recent installation of the passing loop and the soon to be fitted railway bridge, make sure you explore the station and pop into Arthur’s Tea Room for a slice of homemade cake and a cuppa before continuing on your journey.
Leyburn is the main market town of mid Wensleydale with shops, cafes and craft shops with tastes such as bespoke chocolate and ceramics catered for (1/4 mile walk from the station). Market day is on a Friday. Why not check out the gin distillery of Taplin and Mageean located next door to the station or take a walk along The Shawl, a limestone escarpment with fantastic views? Reputedly named because Mary Queen of Scots lost her shawl whilst escaping from Bolton Castle.
